Weekend Workshop with Gunther Bisges on zoom
Weekend Workshop in the Feldenkrais-Method
with Günther Bisges
A 20th & 21st of March 2021
on Zoom
This Workshop: The Chest – Moving Space, Breathing Space, Heart Space
Pain, physical discomfort, a sense of heaviness in ourselves and a lack of ease in our movement combined with the notion of a „ribcage“ make us realize how limited and diffused our image is of the chest as a centre for movement. We tend to be mainly peripherally oriented in our movements and actions and literally have lost our sense of centre and middle. Relating to the movement of the head and neck with the upper ribs and the upper thoracic spine and those of the pelvis with the lower ribs and the lower thoracic spine the chest needs to be able to move in a differentiated three dimensional way. The dynamic balance between lengthening and shortening and the ability of omnidirectionality determines the healthy and lifelong functioning of our chest. These cyclical changes lead to an equal distribution of effort and the structural health of all the components involved: bones, cartilage, tendons and muscles.
The Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method is a highly respected and rapidly growing method in the emerging field of somatic education. It is unique in that it is based on sound mechanical and neurological principles and yet easily accessible through simple, practical lessons. Based on the work of Dr.Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) and influenced by his expertise in physics, engineering and judo, the method draws together both the science and the art of human movement. It is an educational method with the focus on learning through developing awareness.
This approach has a broad range of applications as it may reveal and alter behaviours responsible for chronic tension and pain; it can facilitate recovery of movement restricted by injury or trauma and it can improve skills for professionals in Theatre, Sports, Dance and Music. At the same time it is a valuable learning tool for everyday life.
The Feldenkrais Method offers a kind of sensory motor-learning that will enhance the students ability to restore and recreate a coordinative sense of movement that allows him or her to have both mobility plus strength and stability when needed and necessary.
